By popular demand, here is Dave's letter to the editor(s), and he would love to hear any and all list members who are able to help:
The Heart of Ohio Trail Association was established in 2000 as a volunteer group to support the establishment and the maintenance of the Heart of Ohio Trail. This trail starts at the Delaware County line, runs through Centerburg, proceeds along Dry Creek on it's way into the city of Mount Vernon. The trail is also part of the Ohio to Erie trail which when completed, will run from the Ohio River to Lake Erie. Since the establishment of our Trail Association in 2000, the land for the trail has been purchased by the county, the trail has been cleared of trees, eighteen bridges have been repaired, and the trail is now open from Centerburg to Thayer road. Two bridges remain to be repaired in order to open the trail all the way to Mount Vernon. Grants have been received to replace the last two bridges and pave sections of the trail in the next few years. When our association was first established, many people signed up that were interested in helping to maintain the trail. At that time, there was not a need for any maintenance work. At the present time there IS a need for additional volunteers to help maintain the trail. This volunteer help would include activities such as: mowing, tree trimming/removal, spraying to keep vegetation under control, brush removal, etc. If you enjoy working outdoors and are interested in joining our Association, we meet each month on the third Thursday of each month at 7 PM at the OLD Centerburg High School building. If you have questions or need additional information please contact Dave Beck at 740 625-5123 or send an e-mail to dbeck at columbus.rr.com.

Vice President - Heart of Ohio Trail Association
